The mercurial Los Angeles Lakers forward formerly known as Ron Artest officially became Metta World Peace on Friday when a Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner approved the name change.
World Peace, who will spend his off-season competing on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” was granted the change just in time for the show’s season premiere on Monday night after clearing up lingering traffic ticket warrants.
“Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world. After this short delay, my tickets have been paid and I’m glad that it’s now official,” World Peace said in

The NBA lockout has entered its third month, but Tuesday is the day that will look and feel the most different at US Airways Center.
The day after Labor Day usually marks the start of Suns voluntary workouts in earnest. Some players come earlier but most, if not all, are normally in the Valley by early September to use the facilities for workouts and pickup games. This year, players are barred from NBA contact, let alone facilities, due to the lockout and are on their own for workouts.
Suns swingman Jared Dudley won't be denied his work or play in

Danilo Gallinari of the Denver Nuggets recently said he was lucky to have the EuroBasket tournament so he could concentrate on basketball with the Italian national squad, taking his mind off the United States and the NBA lockout. However, in past years he seemed to do everything to avoid the Italian team while he focused on his NBA career. The forward is not the only one to have a revived awakening of nationalism - over 30 NBA player will be participating in the championship which kicks off tomorrow in Lithuania.

If Brady Quinn has leapfrogged Tim Tebow on the Denver Broncos' depth chart, coach John Fox isn't saying.
Fans will just have to tune in tonight to see what happens when the Broncos face the Buffalo Bills at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
Fox called it a "game-time decision" regarding his quarterback rotation.
"From a competitive standpoint, we can talk about that after the game," Fox said, "not before the game."
Even if Quinn gets into the game before Tebow when the starters come out in the second quarter, that's not to say he's necessarily won the job as

The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 1-0 series lead, and looked like they were on a roll to advance to the Conference finals. The Thunder looked like they were over matched, but bounced back with a big win to tie the series up at one game apiece.
The Memphis Grizzlies (46-36) came into the Oklahoma City Thunder (55-27) and stole game one with a big 114-101 victory. In game two the Thunder jumped out to a big lead and handed the Grizzlies an unexpected, but much needed loss. The Thunder took care of business in front of their home

Simply put, I can’t remember a more compelling or exciting first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Every series has been exciting, and the level of talent on every team is simply staggering. Memphis is better than San Antonio. New Orleans has played the Lakers tough. Even though the Knicks were swept, they easily could’ve stolen two games in Boston.
And even Indiana proved that having one starter who is certifiably insane (Tyler Hansbrough) can overcome a lot of talent deficiencies. Say what you want about the Pacers, they played as hard as anyone in their first round series with Chicago.

With the draft only days away, most teams have their lists of target prospects ready and waiting. Prospects are waiting for the phones to ring, crossing their fingers that their favorite team will come calling. The time for talk is almost done. The time for action is just about here.
As I wrap up my pre-draft coverage of the Pittsburgh Steelers this week, it's time to take one last look at the prospects the Steelers must target on draft day. By target, I mean everything from possibly trading up to even laying in the weeds and trying to steal a

The NHL playoffs are once again focusing attention on concussions. Sidney Crosby, Marc Savard, Max Pacioretty are just three of 80 or more NHL players who suffered concussion during the regular season. Now, with the playoffs underway, the stakes are higher and the hits may be even harder. Just this week, observers were calling for Vancouver Canuck forward Raffi Torres to be suspended for his hit on Chicago Blackhawk defenseman Brent Seabrook. A new study published this week in the Canadian Medical Association Journal is once again focusing attention on a big problem in professional sport.

So far, so good. The opening game of each first-round playoff series has lived up to my expectations and with each came some really exciting moments.
Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen, Dwight Howard, Derrick Rose and Zach Randolph, please give yourselves a pat on the back—you made the list.
Win or lose, some of the previously mentioned players gave it their all—showing the NBAplayoff intensity I love.
